Awakening: when we realize a sunset, in its ever-changing movement through time, has mesmerized us. Every night there is a sunset that we take for granted except for when one beacons our eye. Invariably we remember the awakening of being witness to something so special.
The way the sky is handled is expressive in a way that I have never seen in a painting before: the minimization of the landscape and atmosphere is something I have been working on for quite some time. The silver band of land separating landscape from sky done in a metallic wash enhances the awakening feeling as different parts of the band come forward in an ever-changing way.
