Stone's Song, featuring Joy Richardson and Mallet & Redhawk

On Friday, September 27th, from 5pm – 7pm, Canyon Road Contemporary Art, 622 Canyon Road in Santa Fe, is proud to present the painter Joy Richardson and the artistic team of Mallet & Redhawk, each of whose work explores expression in different ways. The exhibit will run through October 3rd. On Saturday September 28th, all three artists will be demonstrating some of their processes. Marlys Mallet and Michael will show the last stages of a Stone Creation (these pieces change significantly through the course of the process) and will talk with interested folks about their process, their stones, and what the project means to them. Joy Richardson will be in attendance as well, demonstrating her wild and joyful methods of painting, and available to discuss all things color.

Joy Richardson’s large, abstract canvases exude pure optimism with their bold color fields in fanciful blends and strokes. Her color combinations span the known spectrum and beyond as she expresses the moment of her artistic spirit boldly. Her work is self-expression at its purest, unhindered by the rigidity of form, coming straight from within, unplanned and free. Each painting reflects her love for life and color in a new and exciting way.

Stone Creations, the joint project of Marlys Mallet and her husband Michael Redhawk, sets agates and other semi-precious stones on abstract back-paintings. Redhawk, a jeweler and gemologist, sources the stones and writes descriptions of their character and history. Mallet, a lifelong abstract painter, studies this character and expands on it in her fine brushwork paintings, creating a joint work which is both a beautiful display and an abstract expression of the inner life of the stone.
